If you are local to the SUN ‘n FUN Expo Campus and would like to volunteer with us year-round, our “Yearly Birds” volunteer program has plenty of opportunities for you. With onsite and community events throughout the year, work options vary with each unique activity available. Volunteers choose experiences that are interesting to them, offering their time and talents based on personal interests. It is a great way to meet new people and learn about our organization!

With a minimum of four hours a month, 10 months out of each year, these volunteers are recognized with Day of Choice tickets to the SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo, passes to Florida Attractions, and an annual banquet in the fall, acknowledging their contributions throughout the year.

To qualify for the YearlyBird program you must meet one of the following requirements:

• Eight out of Twelve Months – giving 8 hours of volunteer service per month
• Nine out of Twelve Months – giving 6 hours of volunteer service per month
• Ten out of Twelve Months – giving at least 4 hours of volunteer service per month

Level One – 40 Hours
Level Two – 75 Hours
Level Three – 150 Hours
Level Four – 300 Hours
Level Five – 500 Hours
Level Six – 1,000 Hours and over
Eagle Spirit Award – Highest Hours

YearlyBird Volunteer Spotlight

Ron and Judy are some of our favorite volunteers! It’s such a plus when we find a couple that wants to volunteer and make such a great team!

Ronnie was asked how he and Judy came to volunteer at SUN ‘n FUN and his response was surprising.  They were introduced to the volunteer aspect of SUN ‘n FUN by working with the Southern Baptist Convention during the SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo who supported a Kid’s Activities tent by working with the kids in the west campground by Hangar E. That playground is no longer there now.

Before retiring in 2010, Ron worked 38 years at the Polk County Property Appraisers office and the Commercial Real Estate Department. Ron has volunteered with SUN ‘n FUN for 12 years as our main year-round event photographer. Judy has also volunteered with us for 12 years. Judy worked in banking for 20 years and 10 years as a Preschool Director.

Now, during the Expo, Judy supports Camp Duffy operations and Volunteer Credential Disbursement and Ron spends much of his time with his love of photography and supporting our guests in Preferred Airshow Seating.

Year-round, Judy and Ron have supported our events by assisting with our camping operations, summer camp activities and pretty much anything asked of them.

In addition to volunteering with SUN ‘n FUN, Judy spends a lot of her time at a local church food bank preparing food for all the volunteers that help there and preparing the groceries to give out to their clients. She likes doing missions at her church and traveling. Ron on the other hand loves knives and has quite the collection! When the Stiltners travel, Ron keeps an eye out for knives to add to his collection. Ron was also asked why they volunteered when you could do anything you want to do and his response was clear “we volunteer because we enjoy working with people and especially the education programs that encourage young people to go for their dreams.”
